This state agency operates a unique and innovative ocean science and technology park strategically located at Keahole Point next to the Kona International Airport and adjacent to one of the steepest bathymetric offshore slopes in the Hawaiian Islands. The economic impact generated at NELHA is approaching $100 million annually.

Pristine natural resources combine with leasable parcels that encourage innovation and use in research, education, and commercial projects. A one-of-a-kind dual-temperature seawater system sets NELHA apart from other technology parks.

Numerous NELHA research projects have spawned new commercial enterprises. A public charter school was established here to take advantage of this growing ocean science and technology community.

Administratively attached to the Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT), NELHA is funded by allocations from the Hawaii State Legislature and revenues collected from its tenants for use of facilities and services.
