Located at the 6,200-foot elevation, in the upland saddle region between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, PTA provides prime training for units from all U.S. military services and allied militaries. Comprised of 133,000 acres, PTA is the largest Department of Defense installation in Hawaii.
Roughly positioned in the middle of Hawaii Island, PTA is accessible from the newly improved Saddle Road.
PTA offers realistic training in settings not found elsewhere and can support up to 2,300 military personnel. Its 80-acre cantonment area, higher-altitude airfield with a 3,700-foot runway, and firing ranges provide the infrastructure to conduct small-arms and crew-served weapons familiarization training and qualifications and artillery and mortar live fire.
